The Moth

We were sitting around the table, finishing dinner, when a moth decided to join us. We caught it with a little bug net and gave it to Kayson. He was so proud of his bug, until it flew up his sleeve. He started freaking out saying, "bug, shirt!". I looked in his shirt and didn't see anything but he kept freaking out. All of a sudden, the moth flew out of his shirt and landed on the ceiling. Kayson was so scared and told me the bug needed to go outside. We got the moth again and Kayson helped me release it into the wild.

Papa Died

My beloved grandfather; Papa Keith, passed away unexpectedly last year. I always knew I would have to explain death to my children, I just didn't think the conversation would come so soon. Today, my two-year-old came up to me and said, "Papa died". At first, I wasn't sure how to respond; explaining such a heavy subject to a small child can be challenging and I wanted to be as honest as possible. I told him Papa Keith did die and he now lives with Jesus. I also explained that he will always love us and if we ever need him; he will be there, even if we cannot see him. I'm not sure how much he understood, but he gave me a big hug and went about his playing so maybe he at least got the idea.

Old MacDonald

This morning I was putting away laundry and Kayson decided he was going to play me a song on his drums. He climbed up onto his stool, picked up his drumsticks, and started singing Old MacDonald while banging on the drums. My Nana Jane gave him those drums and questioned my approval. Obviously, toddlers and loud things are usually a recipe for a headache; but, I could never deny my children the opportunity to discover the beauty of music.
